The Crisis of European Migration Influx
As vast number of migrants make their way towards Europe, European Union is struggling to keep up with the influx of refugees seeking for asylum. This has prompted The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) to call for a world leader’s conference at the United Nations to lay out plans and solutions for this pressing issue.
The migrant’s toll has already reached to 514,000 people crossing the Mediterranean Sea to reach Europe. Almost 3,000 of these individuals perished on the journey or worse, reported missing.
The EU is now taking sturdier movements by tightening border controls and refusing asylum for people who do not need international protection. The influx of migrants can be attributed to the weak security and widespread poverty in Pakistan, Somalia, Iraq, Nigeria and Sudan.
EU proposed to open “Hot Spots†or reception centers in Greece and Italy to accommodate genuine refugees. This is part of a new relocation scheme for 160,000 refugees, the first migrants to be moved out from country to country.
