Potosi Cement Plant Project Inception in Bolivia
X2 Logistics Networks member ALTIUS S.A. preformed unloading operations of the first vessel carrying breakbulk cargo for the construction of the Potosi Cement Plant, a new project in Bolivia.
The operation was carried out at Arica Port (Chile) using shore tension equipment. Cargo was unloaded from vessel by shore cranes, moved to the laydown area and finally unloaded and stowed using reach stackers and shore cranes. Then once loaded, awaiting land transportation vehicles moved the pieces across Chile and Bolivia, which entailed following a greatly challenging route that included stretches of road 4,680 meters above sea level with sharp bends.
During unloading operations, an ALTIUS engineer surveyed operations and labelled each item with a project code to allow for better coordination between all parties involved in the project.
