Six Trade Routes Represent More Than 80% of World
Shipping goods by sea is a vital part of supply chains, with nearly 90% of all the world’s goods moved by sea. But did you know that six major trade routes collectively represent more than 80% of the total world container trade?
These vital trade routes are: Asia-Europe, Transpacific, Intra-Asia (including Intra-China), Indian subcontinent and Middle East, Latin America, and Africa. But the global growth in the container shipping trade plummeted in 2015.
The worldwide flows of goods, services and capital are worth trillions of dollars every year. But retailers, manufacturers, distributors and a broad range of logistics service providers are under pressure to increase profitability. Inefficient processes, shipments being held up at ports and unreliable tracking threaten freight forwarders of all sizes.
The supply chain is under intense pressure to meet demands from consumers for increased speed, accuracy and improved customer service. As a result we may see more global mergers, increased partnerships and a more effective use of logistics networks to grow business along the trade routes.
